Floral Park Bellerose Students Learn About 3D Printing and Robotics

The Floral Park Bellerose Elementary School hosted the STEAMed Van where the 4th and 5th grade students programmed and competed with the Darwin mini robot in push-ups (Darwin won), designed fun and unique 3D Printing projects. Students also used their motion (and an understanding of geometry) to create characters and smiles.

Robotics, 3D Printing, and Water Study at Stone Ridge School

he Stone Ridge School hosted the STEAMed Van where 4th and 6th grade students competed with the NAO robot in a dancing competition (NAO won) and designed fun and unique 3D printing projects. Students also learned why it is bad to introduce gold fish to a pond and conducted an in-depth water study, seeing the effects of the introduction.

Robotics and 3D Printing at North Bellmore Elementary School

The North Bellmore Elementary School hosted the STEAMed Van where 5th grade students programmed and competed with the dancing NAO robot (NAO won), and designed fun and unique 3d printing projects.  Students also used their motion (and an understanding of geometry) to create characters, smiles, and push-ups.

Robotics, 3D Design, and Vernier Sensors at Lincoln Orens Middle School

The STEAMed Van visited the Lincoln Orens Middle School in Island Park where students were exposed to the programing with The Darwin Mini Robot and Cubelets. Students then moved to 3D design printing with the Ultimaker 2, and finally they explored how sensors are used to generate outcomes by using light sensors and motion detectors.

The STEAMed Van Attends The Willits Roads School Tech Fair

The Willits Road School hosted a tech fair for their students from grades 2 through 7.  Students and parents were exposed to 3D printing and design, robotics with the NAO robot and the Darwin mini, as well as a "Dancing with the Stars" physics activity connecting motion to a graphical representation.

The STEAMed Van Attends STEMfest in Yorktown, NY

The NYIT STEAMed Van joined the Tech Center in Yorktown Heights for STEMfest which was hosted by the Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES. The STEAMed Van staff excited participants with 3D design and printing techniques, modeling and virtual manipulations with Z-space, and programing the Darwin mini with their cell phones. Students had a chance to dance with the NAO Robot, and solve design challenges with the Cubelets Box Robots. It was a day of surprises and challenges that all were ready to try.

Event at Charles A Mulligan Middle School

Middle school students from Charles A Mulligan Middle School attended a winter vacation academy and were exposed to expression of character traits using simple circuits, solve design challenges by constructing and using robots, and created a template for everyone to make the perfect basketball shot using Vernier software.

Event at Laurel Park Elementary School

On December 9, 2014 NYIT Technology Based Learning Systems (TBLS) visited a group of third grade students who were introduced to hands on activities in robotics by interacting and programming the NAU robot. Students were able to express their creativity with simple circuits and learned how to use instruments to extend their senses with Vernier Probes. All students were exposed to an individualized experience that allowed them to see science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics as a fun exciting way to express themselves an solve challenges.
